Veteran Stratton Mountain ski instructor Otto Egger died at his home in Bondville, Vermont, on May 23, 2016, at the age of 83.

Born in Zell am See, Austria, in 1933, Egger came to America in 1960 to teach the new, standardized Austrian ski technique at Mad River Glen. He then joined the Stratton ski school, where he taught for more than 50 years. He also became the emcee and accordion player for the lively and much-loved Tyrolean-style oom-pah band the Stratton Mountain Boys, greeting audiences with his trademark phrase, “Stratton Mountain is wunderbar!” He is survived by his wife, Antonia.
