Dick Barrymore, maker of ski films and developer of a resort in Mexico, died at his Ketchum, Idaho home. He was 74.

Barrymore was best known as the maker of action ski films, including Last of the Ski Bums, The Performers and Wild Skis. He documented powder skiing and mogul skiing, and celebrated so-called "hot dogs" who performed feats of daring on skis.

Barrymore also wrote "Breaking Even," his story of his life making ski films.

"With a normal motion picture, you shoot a film about a story," Barrymore wrote in "Breaking Even." "With a ski film, you make a story about the film you've shot."
