The 2011-12 ski season marks a half century for Sun Peaks Resort (formerly Tod Mountain), which once offered some of British Columbia’s most challenging inbounds skiing. The 3,678-acre ski area, 30 miles to the northeast of Kamloops, B.C., will commemorate the golden anniversary throughout the season. A calendar of events is available on Sun Peaks Resort’s website.

For a detailed history of Sun Peaks, see Robert Koopmans two-part article in the Kamloops Daily News:

Part One: Sun Peaks at 50: Burfield lift sowed seeds for great ski culture

Part Two: Foreign Exchange: Sun Peaks investment part of a maturing city economy

Lastly, if you have 15 minutes to burn, indulge in the vintage Tod Mountain promotional video above. It was filmed in 1974 and is narrated by what sounds like a six year old.
