presented by
the International Skiing History Association and the
U.S. National Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame
To: Friends of ISHA, the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame, and the World of Ski History!
As the 600 skiing history fans who met in Sun Valley to celebrate the resort’s 75th anniversary can attest, ISHA’s Skiing Heritage Week 2011 was an amazing gathering. In fact, ever since last April, the main question I’ve heard is, “How are you going to top it?” Well, hold onto your boards — whatever type you use — because Skiing Heritage Week 2012 is going to be even more fun!
How? Well, as the saying goes in show business, we’re taking our act on the road. During the week of April 8 to 15, 2012, we’ll visit one of the cradles of American skiing: the Pacific Northwest. This once-in-a-lifetime gathering will see ISHA members and friends visit several mountain destinations whose names evoke some of skiing’s grandest traditions: Timberline Lodge, Mount Hood Meadows, White Pass, Crystal Mountain, Mount Rainier, Stevens Pass and Snoqualmie. In a perfect ending to our Northwest sojourn, we’ll end up in Seattle for the annual induction ceremony of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame, plus a special tribute to America’s greatest ski and snowboard company — K2 — as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. Numerous milestones in the growth of skiing and snowboarding have come out of the Pacific Northwest, from international competition to innovations in equipment, resort operations and publicity. (FYI, SKI magazine was started in Seattle 75 years ago).
There is no aspect of the sport today that can’t, in some form, trace its heritage to the Northwest.
The following pages will give you a good idea of all we have planned for Skiing Heritage Week 2012, along with the costs to attend. As you’ll see, you have two options:
1. Sign up for the whole week of activities, including lodging, transportation, most meals and all lift passes for $1,585 or $1,795 (depending on which Seattle hotel you choose).
2. Or join us in Seattle and purchase what you need — hotel, events, skiing — on an a la carte basis.
The enclosed sign-up sheet will give all the details. Of course, the easiest way to register for the event is online at www.skihall.com/SkiingHeritage.
However you decide to participate, you can expect some great skiing and snowboarding, parties, entertainment, reunions with old and new friends, film screenings and a number of special events hosted by K2, the resorts, ISHA and the U.S. Hall of Fame. Please look over this material and act on it now; participation in the road trip through the Northwest is limited to 100 people (two busloads) on a first-come basis. There’s no limit for the Seattle-based skiing and activities.
Please pass this invitation along to anyone and everyone, and post on your Website or social-media pages. I’m pretty certain a lot of people will want to be part of this very special celebration of skiing and snowboarding in the Pacific Northwest.
Until all of our skis cross again, best wishes for a great season.
—Bernie Weichsel
